Welcome to FringeHog

FringeHog is a media project that’s exploring the socialization of the future in culture and business. We’re interested in how ideas about the future emerge, how they migrate and ultimately, how they interact with people and institutions to create change. Our aim is to create a “clearinghouse” of the future by bringing together the most interesting and innovative thinkers in technology, science, culture and media.

About Us

SANDY

Sandra Burchsted

It’s a good thing Sandra is a marathoner because her best ideas are generated while running. A native Texan, her unofficial motto is “go big or go home” which explains why she sees the world as a multi-dimensional FringeHog canvas. As a futurist, Sandra is obsessed with the changes created in culture and business when innovation and design collide. She lusts for technologies that are both aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. Her not-so-secret indulgences: modern art, running clothes, cinnamon lattes and chili cheese dogs (not necessarily in that order).

Michele Bowman

You sort of have to wonder about someone who shares an equal passion for RFID Journal and Outdoor magazine. Multiple personalitiesOr neural networks in hyperdriveThe fact is, Michele is one of those annoying people who loves (!!) her job (good thing she’s a futurist and not an accountant). An island native trapped in an east coast weather pattern, she has a natural affinity for open windows, water sports of any flavor and freshly shaken margaritas.

Jamais Cascio

The great thing about calling yourself a “freelance world-builder” is that it makes people actually read your business card. Jamais Cascio has been designing foresight scenarios since before he even knew there was a term for it, let alone an industry. His career path has taken him from a graduate degree in international politics to hands-on work in the computer industry, to writing for scenario planning pioneer Global Business Network, to Hollywood (consulting for a variety of science fiction TV shows and movies), to the world of game design, and finally to the Internet, as co-founder of the award-winning weblog worldchanging.com

Back out on his own (and writing at Open the Future), Cascio is always on the lookout for new ideas, unexpected insights, and a truly spicy bowl of Thai green curry.

Wayne Pethrick

Wayne Pethrick

Unlike Sandra whose best ideas are generated while running, Wayne gets much of his ‘gold’ while in the shower - needless to say he takes long showers. A futurist who dabbles in the design of all things for screen and print, he has a keen eye for framing the opportunities that occur when future elements bump and grind (or is that ooze and squelch?). Getting personal for a moment, Wayne brews his own beer, enjoys a mild dependence on caffeine and gets an unsettling degree of pleasure from mowing his lawn.

Wayne currently works from a Macintosh computer in Perth, Australia.
