Apple Launches Recycling Program

August 29th, 2006

Apple launched “Take Back” its free computer recycling program recently. When you buy a new Mac you can opt in to the program and Apple will email you instructions and a mailing label. When you’re ready to replace your Mac you simply package it, attach the label and ship it. A nifty aspect of the Take Back program is that Apple plans to recycle any computer regardless of the manufacturer.

The notion of designing products with Cradle to Cradle certifications in mind is getting traction. Steelcase was the first company to earn the McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry’s (MBDC) new Cradle to CradleProduct Certification in October of 2005. Herman Miller, Energy Barriers and Victor Innovatex earned Gold certifications this month. A total of 17 MBDC Cradle to Cradle Certifications were awarded.
